Tasting Notes:
“Brimming with dark, rich berry, loamy earth, crushed rock and espresso, this is a powerful expression that's also tapered and sophisticated, ending with all kinds of subtle nuances that come alive on the finish. Syrah and Petite Sirah. Best from 2013 through 2024. 3,300 cases”

“This big red brims with dark, rich, chunky blackberry and wild berry fruit, with notes of black licorice that edge toward prune. Maintaining a fine balance for its size, this is extracted, with firm, chewy, peppery tannins. Syrah and Petite Sirah. Best from 2015 through 2028.”

“The 2012 Syrah Relentless, which has not yet been bottled, is a blend of 89% Syrah and 11% Petite Sirah. In keeping with this amazing year, it’s full-bodied, juicy, succulent, flamboyant, with blueberry and blackberry fruit galore, lots of glycerin and a massive mouthfeel, but no heaviness or astringency characterize this stunning wine. This should turn out to be a great, great Rhone Ranger when released in a year or so.” (Oct. 2014)
Winery Notes: “Suisun (su-soon) Valley, which lies to the Southeast of Caymus, is only a 40-minute drive and reminds the Wagner family of Napa Valley 40 years ago. With its warm days and cool nights, the region is known for delicious stone fruits and walnuts  increasingly, it is also gaining recognition for its wine. Durif is synonymous with Petite Sirah, the widely grown grape in the region, adding Grand to the name of the Suisun-grown Durif because it has a grand style. With lush textural tannins, this wine is rich, supple and totally enjoyable.”
Description:
“The Grand Durif features a deep, majestic purple, with a nose of blueberries, wet earth and saddle leather. The initial impression on the palate is broad, smooth and weighty, then springs into gear with rich and harmonious tannins. The key notes of this wine are the lush textural tannins that push the limits on arrogance yet also display friendly supple qualities. It’s truly difficult to explain its singular style – firm structure yet super abundant fine textural softness.”

“One of the hidden gems here and a relatively recent addition to the range, the 2017 Petite Syrah (Napa Valley) is powerful and distinctive. Sweet red cherry, plum, iron, grilled herbs, chocolate and leather all come together in the glass. Today, the 2017 feels a bit heavy. Hopefully aging will take care of at least some of that.”
